Incident at GANDER INTL NL (CYQX)

Summary

2003-12-22: At 1733Z RCH916 a US Military C17 advised they had a smoke indication in avionics and declared an emergency. The Aircraft requested to divert to Gander and were re-cleared on a more direct route. At 1756Z the avionics indicated the situation was returned to normal, however flight wished to maintain emergency status. At 1841Z due to Gander weather RCH916 advised they wished to continue to Bangor. The aircraft exited Canadian Airspace at 2127Z.
