Incident at GANDER INTL NL (CYQX) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown, Aerodrome - other)

Summary

2003-12-04: N411WW a Gulf-IV landed on Runway 04 at 0442Z. The aircraft was cleared to exit Runway 22 via a left turn to Runway 31. The aircraft missed the turn, crossed Runway 31 and went through the windrow of snow approximately two feet deep. The aircraft then became stuck and crews had to remove the snow before the aircraft could free itself to continue to the terminal. At the time N411WW was landing RCH5107 (a C-17) was taxiing for departure from Runway 04 via taxiway Alpha. This aircraft's entry to the runway was blocked by a windrow approx 4 ft deep. Crews removed the windrow as quickly as possible but by that time the aircraft had to return to the terminal to be de-iced again. The Taxi route was via Runway 04 to Runway 31. Upon request from the Tower as to status of the Intersection the Runway foremen suggested Tower hold RCH5107 until N411WW (the Gulf-IV) could be moved. At 0508Z with both aircraft on Runway 04 another C-17 inbound for landing (RCH4067) had to be put into a hold. The two aircraft on the ground were reported clear of the runway at 0510Z and RCH4067 landed at 0518Z after a delay of approximately 8 minutes.
