Incident at STEPHENVILLE NL (CYJT)

Summary

2003-10-23: TSB - Update -A03A0114: The left-side pilot's window of a Beech 200, C-GBBG, cracked while the aircraft was en route from Deer Lake to Fredericton at FL 280. The crew initiated an emergency descent and advised ATC. ATC gave clearance for a lower altitude and the aircraft diverted to Stephenville where it landed uneventfully. There was no loss of pressurization, and an emergency was not declared. Window heating was not selected at the time of the occurrence. The inner laminate of the window was extensively cracked (spider's web), obscuring the left-side pilot's view. The operator has indicated that an SDR will be submitted to Transport Canada.
2003-10-20: GBBG a Beech 200 en-route from Deer Lake to Fredericton at Flight Level 280 reported cracked windshield at a position 80 Nautical Miles West of Stephenville. The aircraft requested a clearance to Stephenville. No emergency was declared and the aircraft landed at 1221Z without further problems.
