Incident at SAINT JOHN NB (CYSJ)


2003-09-08: At 1645Z the duty Saint John FSS Specialist broadcast that the FS Station would be unattended for 2-3 min, shortly after an aircraft landed at 1643Z. There was no other aircraft due in or out. While she was out of the tower cab, the FSS heard FXZU a helicopter broadcast his intentions to depart. The FSS Specialist subsequently heard the helicopter depart. When she returned to the cab, she called the aircraft, gave him the altimeter and informed him that the weather was below VFR. He reported the ceiling at 1200ft. The aircraft that landed at 1643Z reported at 900ft. The FSS issued a weather special with a measured Ceiling of 900 ft at 1648Z. The weather at the time of departure was a Special 1636 M6 BKN VIS 12.
