Incident at DEBERT NS (CCQ3)

2003-08-12: A Cessna 170 (C-FHII) contacted Halifax terminal on 118.7 MHz. The aircraft had departed Fox Harbour or possibly Hox Hollow VFR and was bound for Debert. The aircraft did not know his position. He was assigned a transponder code by Halifax and was identified 3 miles South South East of Debert. The aircraft continued to orbit and descend. Communications were lost with the aircraft and JZA8835 assisted in relaying information. The aircraft was having difficulty staying clear of cloud. Eventually he reported clear of cloud. He proceeded southbound below 1000 feet on Radar, then the target disappeared from Radar at 2343Z. The pilot stated that he was going to land in a grass aerodrome near Shubenacadie. Neither Moncton ACC nor Halifax FIC had any Flight Plan for this aircraft.
