Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)
2003-07-31: 40 miles east of Halifax JZA8818 a DH8A aircraft reported indicator problems. The aircraft was enroute to Sydney and returned to Halifax. The Dash8 landed safely at 2010Z.
2003-08-19: Jazz - Update - DHC-8 C-FHRC Fin # 842 reported indicatorproblems returned to Halifax.The Crew of the aircraft in question reported that they were experiencing indication problems. The aircraft was enroute to Sydney, the crew contacted MOC and it was decided to return to Halifax, they landed safely at 2010Z. Maintenance meet the aircraft at the gate were upon they discovered that the oil level was down by 3.5 Qts, it was also noted that the sight glass was dirty and the oil level wasn't clearly visible. The pressure transmitter and switch were changed a leak check performed and the aircraft returned to service on Journey Log Page #248980 with no reoccurrence of the defect. A work card(#D162) was generated at that time to have the sight glass replaced, The journey log books searched for any abnormalities, the engine was just replaced on July 27/03. The journey log was checked Pt 1 for the engine oil uplift and whether or not they were being done and noted that there has been an abnormally high oil usage on that engine. A work Card(#950)has been generated to have a look at the engine to see if there were any external oil leaks.
