2003-07-30: TSB - Update - 2003-07-29 - A03A0086: The privately owned and operated Mooney M20F was landing on Runway 28 at Charlottetown, PEI after a local sightseeing flight. During touchdown the aircraft encountered a strong wind gust from the left which turned the aircraft beyond 45 degrees off runway heading. The pilot applied full power and attempted to overshoot into the wind. The aircraft did not accelerate sufficiently to fly out of ground effect and the stall warning horn activated several times. The aircraft continued across the infield until a wingtip caught on a small hill and spun the aircraft 180 degrees. The aircraft continued moving, now rearward, until it came to rest on the opposite side of the hill. None of the occupants were injured. The aircraft sustained damage to the landing gear, wings, and tail. The AFF responded after the FSS specialist activated the crash alarm as the aircraft departed the runway.
