Incident at WABUSH NL (CYWK)

2003-07-25: Aerodrome Safety update - 2003-07-25 - The airport vehicle vehicle was parked off the runway and was located near the third bar of approach lights for Runway 01. There is a project underway in Wabush on the Approach Lighting system. As a result of this incident the Airport Manager has put in place a procedure of having an extra person with the electrician for the balance of the construction project to ensure this does not happen again.
2003-07-24: A Beech 200 GGGQ reported inbound for Runway 01 in Wabush. At that time, an airport vehicle ST24 was still on the runway. The operator of the Vehicle (the Site electrician) was out of his vehicle in close proximity with the third bar of approach lights, from the threshold end of Runway 01 and was unable to hear the radio transmission from his position. The FSS Specialist flashed the Runway edge lights as per procedures, however, the electrician was working with his back to the runway. Due to the communication failure between the FSS and ST24 the approaching aircraft was advised and carried out missed approach. Soon after, ST 24 exited the runway and GGGQ landed.
