Incident at Montreal Airspace (ATS operating irregularity, ATM - other, ATM - operations)

Summary

2003-06-30: Narrative #2:At 1850Z Montreal ACC Shift Manager advised Moncton ACC Shift Manager that the Montreal ACC had a fire alarm and the ACC was being evacuated. At approx. 1857Z the Montreal ACC Levis sector controller advised Moncton ACC Taffy sector controller that Montreal ACC was being evacuated at that moment and no further aircraft were to be allowed into the Montreal FIR. Several (four or five) high-level enroute aircraft were diverted into Boston ARTCC airspace because of this evacuation. In coordination with Boston TMU it was determined that all Maritime departure aircraft destined for points west of the Montreal FIR could continue with appropriate re- routing around Montreal airspace. Aircraft departing Maritime airports destined to the Montreal FIR were ground stopped. This affected no aircraft at Halifax, 2 flights from Saint John and one Moncton departure. Montreal ACC shift manager advised at 1915Z that they were back in operation and building volume back to normal slowly. Normal operations resumed by 1930Z.
