Incident at 60 NM Southwest Goose Bay

2003-06-27: TSB - Update - 2003-06-27 - A03A0075 - The North Wind Aviation amphibious Cessna 185 was taxiing for departure from a camp on Lake Minipi, Labrador on a non-revenue flight. A short time into the taxi phase the pilot noticed the front of the floats were riding low and pushing water. The pilot decided to stop the aircraft and switch the forward passenger in the right seat to the back seat and the lighter back seat passenger to the front seat. However, when the aircraft slowed the nose of both floats dug in further, and the aircraft began to rapidly nose over. The pilot instructed the passengers to remove their seat belts, open the door and exit the aircraft. The passengers were evacuated from the aircraft while the aircraft was still upright. The occupants were uninjured. The aircraft ended up submerged inverted in the lake. The aircraft had arrived at the camp earlier that day. After arrival the pilot beached the aircraft tail first, with the float tips underwater for approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

2003-06-26: A C185 operating on amphibious floats was taxiing for departure on water from a fishing camp located approximately 60 Nautical Miles Southwest of Goose Bay. As the aircraft was maneuvering for take off the pilot noticed that one float was sinking. At first it was thought that they were experiencing a problem with weight distribution. As he slowed the aircraft it started sinking lower in the water so he shut down and exited the aircraft with the single passenger. The aircraft continued to sink to the point that the aircraft went very nose low into the water with the aft portion of the floats out of the water. TSB investigating - More to Follow
