Incident at DEER LAKE NL (CYDF)


2003-06-04: Update - General Aviation ¿ The pilot (a low time pilot) and had just purchased the aircraft in February. The check out was conducted during the ferry trip to Deerlake. Since then, the aircraft was stored in a hanger for the remainder of the winter. Due to the prop strike the engine has been removed and sent to Halifax for testing and repair. The Pilot/owner stated he would have an experienced pilot fly with him until he feels comfortable with the aircraft.
2003-06-03: TSB -A03A0056: The pilot of the Cessna 177 Cardinal was practising cross wind landings on Runway 25 at Deer Lake, NF. Wind conditions at the time were reported to be 25 degrees off runway centerline at a speed of 10 gusting 15 knots. After three attempts, the pilot completed what seemed to be an uneventful landing. A few days later the pilot noticed damage to the propellor tips during a pre-flight inspection. It was at this time he realized the damage had occurred during the last landing. The pilot has a private licence and a total time of approximately 80 hours, and had accumulated approximately ten hours total time on the type, most of which was during cross country.
