Incident at SAINT JOHN NB (CYSJ) (Communication navigation surveillance/air traffic system)

2003-06-02: An Air Canada Jazz Dash8 (JZA8862) departed Runway 32 with a SID departure clearance which required maintaining the runway heading after take off. The aircraft was observed in a right turn. When the aircraft called Moncton Centre the controller Radar identified the aircraft and asked their heading. The pilot replied heading of 020 degrees. The controller immediately turned the aircraft to the left to a heading of 360 in order to maintain Radar separation with an aircraft on a ten mile final for Runway 23. A preliminary investigation showed that Radar Separation of more than Five Miles was maintained at all times. The pilot confirmed that they had received a SID and apologized to the controller.
