Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)

Summary

2003-05-26: USA306, B-767,enroute Philadelphia to Dublin, declared an emergency and requested diversion to Halifax due to a right engine failure. Aircraft landed safely at 0227Z. TSB evaluating
2003-06-03: TSB - Update - A03A0057: The Boeing 767-200 aircraft, N651US, was en route from Philadelphia to Dublin. At a position approximately 40 NM SW of Halifax, the crew observed the EGT for the Number 2 engine (CF6-80C 2BZ) rise momentarily into the 'Red Range' which was also accompanied by a high oil temperature indication. The crew reduced engine power to idle, requested and received a diversion to Halifax. Seven minutes later the crew declared an emergency (No reason provided to ATS) and eight minutes later the aircraft landed Halifax without further incident. Initial examination of the engine indicated an overheating of the turbine section. The engine is being replaced before the aircraft is returned to service.
