Incident at J.A. DOUGLAS MCCURDY SYDNEY AIRPORT (ATM - NAVAIDS/radar, ATM - ILS irregularity)
2003-04-23: CME301 a PA31 was conducting an ILS approach to Runway 07 and reported a missed approach at 1215Z due to the loss of the glide path signal. The Glide path monitor for the ILS for Runway 07 in Sydney showed that the glide path was serviceable. The previous aircraft reported no problem on the ILS at 1147Z. CME301 Conducted a second ILS on Runway 07 but was still unable to receive the Glide Path Signal and was forced to do another missed approach. CME301 then conducted a successful ILS on Runway 19 and landed at 1315Z. A Special WX was issued for Sydney at 1213Z wind 150 at 6 KT 1SM ""RA BR OVC004 05/05 A2992 RMK SF8 SLP135.
2003-04-25: Update - Maintenance and Manufacturing - 2003/04/24 - The Company found no problems with the ILS/glide path at other airports before or after the Sydney incident. The system was checked by Atlantic Avionics upon return to Halifax & operation checked Concluded that Sydney glide path signal must have been at fault.
