Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)
2003-04-22: Ref:CADOR 2003A0205 - Update Maintenance and Manufacturing - On April 06/03 C-GJSV Fin # 814 enroute From Halifax(YHZ) Flt #8655 to Quebec(YQB)requested a return to Halifax(YHZ)with no assistance required. The Crew reported to Maintenance Control(MCON) that the #2 AC Gen Caution light Illuminated along with a noticeable A/C yaw Prop and eng rpm fluctuations noted with A/C gen selected on,the crew and MCON elected to return to YHZ due to the nature of the snag. Maintenance met the aircraft and discovered that the generator was heavily contaminated with glycol,the problem was rectified and the system was ground checked serviceable, the aircraft was then returned to service.
2003-04-07: At 1422Z Halifax Terminal advised that JZA 8655 (DH8A), which had originally departed Halifax at 1327Z en route to Quebec, was returning to Halifax with no assistance required. The Airport Duty Manager was advised and the aircraft landed safely on Runway 33 in Halifax at 1445Z. TSB - Evaluating
2003-04-25: TSB - Update - 2003/04/23 - A03A0040: The Air Canada Regional (JAZZ) Dash 8, call sign JZA 8655 had departed Halifax for Quebec City when the crew noticed the #2 AC generator caution light illuminate and the #2 engine surged. The crew requested and received clearance to return to Halifax where they landed safely at 1145 ADT. Maintenance inspected the #2 engine and found several electrical connectors were covered in deicing fluid. The connectors were disassembled cleaned and reassembled and all systems checked OK, and the aircraft was returned to service. The operator is taking steps to inform their deicing contractors to use caution when deicing in the area of engine nacelle vents and panels.
