Incident at Gander Oceanic near 33 W

Summary

2003-03-26: TSB Update - 2003/03/25 - A03A0031: N609GC a Gemini Air Cargo DC-10, flight number GCO7922, was in cruise at FL330 estimating 51N30W at 0416 UTC. At 0403 the crew advised Gander ACC that they had a fire warning indication and were requesting to continue eastbound and divert to Shannon, Iceland. The clearance was issued and the aircraft continued and landed uneventfully. The crew had observed a fire warning light for the upper main deck cargo area and elected to discharge the fire bottle. A short time after the fire warning indicator flickered again for approximately one second and the crew discharged the second bottle. Maintenance discovered that the #3 fire detector was faulty and providing a false indication.
2003-03-05: A DC10 en route from Charlottesville to Oostende at Flight Level 330 and Mach 0.82 at position 49N 40W at 0329Z was estimating 51N 30W at 04163Z. At 0403Z the aircraft advised of an indication of smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft requested and was cleared Mach 0.85 and diverted to Shannon. TSB - Case Closed - More to follow.
