Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)

Summary

2003-02-03: At 1102Z a Dornier 328 departed Runway 06 Halifax for Boston. AT 1104Z the aircraft declared an emergency due to an engine fire indication, and was returning to land. Crash alarm was activated and vehicles were in stand-by positions. 16 SOB, 7100 lbs fuel. The aircraft landed safely at 1116Z on Runway 24. No other aircraft involvement.
2003-02-10: TSB Update February 7, 2003. A03A0014: The Atlantic Coast Dornier 328, operating as BR6269, departed Runway 06 at Halifax for a scheduled flight to Boston. Two minutes after take-off the fire detection system indicatd a fire warning on the number one engine. The crew referenced the QRH and discharged both fire suppression bottles. The fire indication remained ""on"" and the crew declared an emergency. Crash alarm was activated and vehicles were in stand-by positions. The aircraft was vectored back to the airport where it landed safely on runway 24 at 07:16 AST. Maintenance inspected the number one engine (Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306B) and found no evidence of fire and they could not duplicate the fire indication. Maintenance replaced the fire control panel and one fire bottle for a ferry flight back to the Boston base.
