Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Summary

2003-01-13: Update Maintenance and Manufacturing January 10, 2003. The crew noticed a strong smell of fuel after they selected the APU Bleed on, the bleed was selected off immediately and the Capt decided to check it out. The crew opened the APU bay and found fuel dripping from the APU. As a percaution, the pilot elected to call the CFR before shutting down the APU. Once CFR was at the aircraft the APU was shutdown without incident Maintenance Control was informed and Toronto maintenance was dispatched along with another aircraft to cover the Aircraft's itinerary. The Crew made an entry in the Journey Log,Page #256810 for the difficulty, Maintenance determined that FCU was at fault and to MEL the APU and position the aircraft back to Toronto for repairs, once there the FCU was replaced and a operational and leak check performed the aircraft was returned to service without further incidence.
2003-01-07: At 2145Z while on the apron at Fredericton a Canadair Regional Jet reported a fuel leak from the APU in the rear section of the aircraft. Due to electrical circuits also located in the rear section, the captain requested AFF to be on standby while they shutdown the electrical systems on board. The aircraft was secured by AFF at 2205Z.
