Incident at REGINA INTL SK (CYQR)

Summary

2001-10-22: UPDATE TSB reported that Air Canada Regional Flight ARN 821 was climbing to FL 310 when the crew reported to ATC that an unusual smell of overheating plastic had been noted in the aft cabin area. The crew requested a return to Regina where the aircraft landed safely with ERS on standby. Maintenance personnel traced the smell to grinding and poor condition of the cabin fan. The cabin fan was disabled and the aircraft departed under MEL after a 15 minute delay.
2001-10-15: At 1456Z, when ARN 821, a BAe 146, was 50 miles west of Regina climbing to FL 310, the crew requested a return to Regina due to an unusual odour in the cockpit. The aircraft landed safely in Regina on Runway 31 at 1520Z. Emergency Services were on standby.
