Accident at SHAMATTAWA MB (CZTM)
2001-10-12: At 0433Z, the RCMP emergency communication center called Winnipeg ACC and advised that the local RCMP at Shamattawa had observed PAG 962, a Metro II, crash in the vicinity of the airport. They advised that the officers were having difficulty accessing the crash site due to the muskeg. The crew was conducting a night-time approach to the 4,000 foot gravel runway at the time it impacted terrain. There were 3 people on the medevac flight and two of the occupants were fatally injured and the third is in hospital. TSB is investigating and more details will be known later.
2001-10-16: UPDATE TSB reported that Perimeter 962, a Swearingen SA-226TC Metro ll with two crew and one flight nurse, was on a medevac flight to pick up a patient at Shamattawa. The crew had flight planned departing (CYGO) God's Lake Narrows at 0343Z (2243 local) with an intended arrival time at (CZTM) Shamattawa of 0410Z. The aircraft was observed to approach Runway 01, then commence a missed approach, and the aircraft crashed about one mile to the north of the airport into a muskeg area. The cockpit and tail had separated from the center fuselage. There was fire but not involving the cockpit. The two flight crew suffered fatal injuries and the flight nurse was taken to the nursing station with serious injuries.
