Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC)
2001-09-24: UPDATE TSB reported that CMM 749 was enroute from Vancouver to Calgary when the Captain inadvertently hit the overhead panel while moving around the cockpit, activating the standby power switch. The annunciator panel subsequently indicated a number of warnings including a deployed thrust reverser on the left engine (RB211-535E4). The yaw damper dropped off-line, and during an automatic system test, the aircraft entered an uncommanded left turn. The crew declared an emergency and the aircraft landed uneventfully on Runway 34 at Calgary International Airport. After examination of the aircraft, maintenance personnel at Calgary determined that the thrust reverser deployed indication was false. As a precaution, the left engine thrust reverser was locked out and the aircraft was dispatched under the MEL.
