Incident at WINNIPEG / JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON INTL MB (CYWG)
2001-08-01: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the utility hydraulic system quantity dropped to zero. Alternate flap and landing gear were selected and the a/c towed off the taxiway. Maintenance was sent from YYC to YWG and found the left forward Main Landing Gear door actuator leaking. The parts were sent from Saskatoon. The aircraft was repaired and return to service. The MLG door actuator case cracked, which resulted in the hydraulic fluid loss. The actuator had 10997.5 hrs total time and 10929 cycles total. These units are on-condition. A report was requested from the repair station on this actuator. An SDR will be completed.
2001-07-20: At 2225Z, the crew of CDR 8458, an F28 inbound to Winnipeg from Calgary, advised ATC that the a/c was experiencing hydraulic problems and they would be holding until approximately 2245Z. They also reported that the a/c might not have nose-wheel steering on landing. CDR 8458 landed safely on Runway 36 at 2250Z with AFF standing by and was able to clear onto a taxiway. The aircraft then waited to be towed to the apron. Tower advises stand-down was at 2308Z. TSB later reported that the crew noted that the utility system hydraulic pressure had decreased to zero. The crew requested a hold and lowered the landing gear by the alternate method. The aircraft landed without further incident with AFF standing by and was towed to the ramp. Maintenance found a blown 'O' ring in the left main gear actuator..
