Incident at SASKATOON / JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER INTL SK (CYXE)

Summary

2001-07-30: UPDATE TSB reported that the A320 was landing at Saskatoon and reportedly, the left brake assembly almost locked during the landing roll. Grinding noises were heard from the left side of the aircraft and there were sparks and a small fire in the left brake assembly. The left brake temperature reached 650 degrees, the safety fusion plug melted and there was a flat tire requiring that several components be changed; however no faults were found in the brake system control unit.
2001-07-18: ACA 1121, an A320, landed on Runway 27 at Saskatoon at 0311Z after a flight from Toronto and the crew indicated that they had a problem with left brake. They later advised that a safety valve had malfunctioned. TSB will be contacting the company.
