Incident at EKATI NT (CYOA) (Conflict - near collision (VFR or IFR))

Summary

2001-07-16: FAB 8011, a HS 748, departed Ekati, NT (YOA) northbound with a left turn to Yellowknife. The flight crew issued a departure message and advisory on 126.7 and 122.7. A King Air B100 crew responded and reported through 10,000 feet inbound to DK2 from Rae Lakes, NWT. Due to a possible conflict, both crews provided their positions, with the HS 748 bearing 235 magnetic from YOA at 20 DME and the King Air bearing 243 magnetic from YOA at 25 DME. The HS 748 crew advised they would level at 6,500 feet until south of the King Air's track. Shortly thereafter, the HS 748 crew spotted the King Air at their nine o'clock position, slightly below and within three statute miles. Confirmation of the visual sighting was relayed to the King Air, along with notification that the King Air had gone through the HS 748's altitude and track. The HS 748 crew reported that the King Air flight crew seemed unaware of their proximity to the HS 748. The incident occurred in uncontrolled airspace and there was no ATC involvement.
