Incident at NORMAN WELLS NT (CYVQ) (ATM - other)
2001-07-09: The T1 communications link at Norman Wells FSS was intermittently u/s from 2126Z, July 6, as indicated by an alarm on the panel and noise, static on affected frequencies (has been occurring and reported regularly over the past few weeks). At 2310Z, a call was missed on 122.2 even though there was no alarm showing. FSS caught the last part of the call on the portable back-up radio. Other calls may have been missed. Previously the problem has affected mostly the transmit and have often have been able to receive. Now it seems to affect both, with occasionally no indication of failure.
2001-07-16: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that the fault was cleared as of July 12, 2001 while a NAV CANADA Technologist was performing corrective maintenance at the receiver site end. Remote diagnostics are being put in place to access T1 from Yellowknife. The next time a failure occurs, more investigation will take place, and trip in to Norman Wells will be made, if required. Planned/Possible Corrective Action: Further action with NorthWesTel depending on results of planned trip. Nav Canada Western Telecom to give further direction pending results of diagnostics, etc. NAV CANADA will wait until another outage before any more corrective action is taken. It is hoped that having remote access via PC will enhance corrective action capabilities. The problem is intermittent.
