Incident at GIMLI INDUSTRIAL PARK AIRPORT MB (CYGM)

Summary

2001-07-09: Tanker 251, a Canadair CL-215, was conducting fire suppression activities 65 NM east of Gimli, MB, when passing aircrew noted smoke trailing from the aircraft's right engine (Pratt & Whitney R2800-CA3). The crew was notified, and the aircraft diverted back to Gimli, where it landed without further incident. Maintenance found that a BMEP plug in the engine had blown out, allowing oil to escape.
