Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC) (ATM - NAVAIDS/radar)
2001-07-03: From 2150Z-2153Z, the Calgary Radar was not serviceable. The radar returned to service with both SSR channels and only one PSR channel. The SUPU status has not been confirmed. There was CB activity in the area. An aircraft in the vicintiy of the radar site reported to be hit by lightning (see CADORS 2001C0721) at approximately the same time. The commerical telephone line to the site is unserviceable due to a possible strike. The radar has been NOTAMed off from 0600Z-1100Z. During this period, techincal staff will assess and repair as much as possible the PSR channel and the SUPU. The technical staff did determine during this examination that the PSR cannot be certified due to equipment problems, both channels of the SSR and the SUPU are serviceable. Therefore the PSR will not be available until repaired. The ""parts"" are on order. The Radar has been NOTAMed out of service 01/07/0530-01/07/1000Z, in anticipation of repairs. The parts arrived in Calgary at 01/07/0400Z. The above time slot remains for the repairs and certification.
