Incident at CALGARY INTL AB (CYYC) (TCAS alert, Overshoot/missed approach)

Summary

2001-05-15: UPDATE TSB reported that STAR 1 departed northbound from Calgary International Airport for Red Deer and was instructed to stay west of the approach for Runway 16. Traffic was given as WJA 29, a Boeing 737 on final approach for Runway 16, and the helicopter crew reported visual contact. STAR 1 was then cleared on course. The crew of WJA 29 reported a TCAS resolution advisory (RA) and they requested a 360 degree turn to the left because they were forced to climb. WJA 29 was subsequently given a missed approach clearance, sequenced again for Runway 16 and landed without further incident at 1617 MDT. Calgary Tower had attempted to notify WJA 29 of the BK-117 traffic, however the Boeing had already received the RA. There was no risk of collision.
2001-05-10: STAR 1(MEDEVAC), an MBB-117 helicopter, departed from Calgary for Red Deer and the pilot was instructed stay west of the Runway 16 approach northbound. STAR 1 reported WJA 29 traffic visual and was then cleared on course. The crew of WJA 29 reported a TCAS RA and they requested a 360 degree turn to the left because they were forced to climb. WJA 29 was given a missed approach clearance, were sequenced and landed without further incident at 2217Z. Calgary Tower attempted to pass WJA 29 the traffic, however the RA was reported prior.
