Incident at ALERT NU (CYLT) (Conflict - loss of separation, ATS operating irregularity)


2001-07-19: UPDATE ANS and Airspace reported that the aircrew failed to comply with ATC clearances. No ATC involvement and no Fact Finding Board.
2001-05-09: DLH 8383, an MD-11, was enroute from Fairbanks to Frankfurt at FL 330 via TAYTA ACAQ LT PTS3. KLM 9195, a B747, was enroute from Amsterdam to Anchorage at FL 330 via 7059N 100W PTSQ LT ACAQ TASPA TAYTA. The BIRK Icelandic Controller had advised that KLM 9195 would enter Edmonton ACC airspace at FL 350. Due to HF communication problems, the BIRK Controller was unable to clear KLM 9195 to FL 350 before it entered Edmonton airspace. The Arctic Controller descended DLH 8383 to FL 310 and vertical separation was established 4 minutes prior to the estimated meet time of the a/c in an area where the minimum of 10 minutes is required.
