Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG) (Electrical problem, ATM - other)

Summary

2001-04-11: During the opening of more sectors in the Edmonton Enroute Specialty, there was a failure of the VSCS equipment preventing the proper sectorization. The Low Level Sector did not have audio in the handsets or headsets used by the controllers although the overhead speakers were working. The problem turned out to be a connector that had come loose causing this malfunction. Because it is new equipment and the staff working with it were not completely comfortable with it yet it took longer than normal to restore full operational capability to the operation. It took about 1 hour to have the Specialty back in full service and during that time there were at least 6 aircraft that were delayed from 5 to 15 minutes in getting airborne from the two Edmonton airports. Normal operations were restored at 1345Z.
