Accident at WYNYARD / W.B. NEEDHAM FIELD SK (CYYO) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

Summary

2001-04-02: The pilot of C-GNCD, a Maule M-5, was landing on Runway 27 at Wynyard, SK (YYO) when the a/c encountered a gust of wind causing him to lose directional control. The right gear dug in and the right wing struck the ground. When the a/c came to a stop, the right gear was torn off and the right wing and propeller had sustained damage. The a/c was disabled, partially blocking the runway. There were no injuries to the two occupants. The weather was reported to be CAVOK and the wind at 2200Z was 020 degrees at 08 knots. A NOTAM has been issued. TSB has given pilot permission to have the a/c removed from the runway, but this will not be done until Sunday April 01, 2001. The airport operator is the town of Wynyard and the town offices are closed for weekend.
