Summary

2001-03-27: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the airport manager followed proper procedures in issuing a notam when it was discovered that the airfield lighting was malfunctioning. The airfield electrician was contacted and all but two runway lights were functioning normally by noon on the 25 of March, 2001. An above-ground cable has been connected between the two remaining lights and all lights are now operating normally as of the 26 of March,2001. Once the ground thaws, the cable will be uncovered and a more permanant fix will be completed.
2001-03-26: TW 221, A BEECH 99, WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 NM NW OF LA RONGE (CYVC) WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE RUNWAY LIGHTS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND ONLY ENERGIZING INTERMITTENTLY. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WOULD STAY ENERGIZED FOR ONLY A SHORT PERIOD, THEY WOULD BE TURNED ON AS THE A/C WAS ON FINAL. THIS WAS CO-ORDINATED WITH THE CREW AND THE A/C LANDED SAFELY. SHORTLY AFTER THE A/C LANDED, THE LIGHTS FAILED AGAIN AND FURTHER ATTEMPTS TO ENERGIZE THEM WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. THE AIRPORT MANAGER HAS BEEN INFORMED AND THE LIGHTS FOR RUNWAY 17/35 HAVE BEEN NOTAMED U/S UNTIL MARCH 26/01 AT 1800Z. ""POT LIGHTING"" IS AVAILABLE FOR MEDEVAC OR OTHER EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.
