Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG)

Summary

2001-02-07: CDR 8348, an F28 inbound to Edmonton (YEG) on a flight from Vancouver, was 15 NM south of YEG when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit, requesting priority landing on Runway 30. The flight landed safely on Runway 30 without further incident with AAF on standby. The crew then reported that the smoke had cleared. Runway 30 was unavailable for landing until 5 minutes following the arrival for a FOD check. Four following arriving aircraft were delayed less than 10 minutes. It was later reported that the number 2 engine generator control unit had shorted out. The unit was replaced, the system tested and the a/c returned to service.
