Incident at EDMONTON INTL AB (CYEG)

Summary

2001-01-22: WHILE EN ROUTE FROM FT. NELSON TO RED DEER, THE PILOT OF C-GLGK, A PIPER NAVAJO,INITIATED A DESCENT TO 12,000 FEET. THE LEFT ENGINE (LYCOMING TSIO-540) LOST PARTIAL POWER AND THE PILOT ADVISED ATC AND REQUESTED A DIVERSION TO EDMONTON. AN EMERGENCY WAS NOT DECLARED. THE LEFT ENGINE THEN BEGAN LOSING OIL PRESSURE, AND WAS FEATHERED AND SHUT DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 02 AT EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE CAUSE OF THE OIL PRESSURE PROBLEM IS UNKNOWN.
2001-02-06: UPDATE Maintenance and Manufacturing reported that the company submitted an SDR on Jan 26/01. The engine lost manifold pressure followed by a loss of oil pressure. A visual inspection revealed that the case was cracked.
