Incident at SASKATOON / JOHN G. DIEFENBAKER INTL SK (CYXE)
2001-01-19: WEW 1640, a Cessna 401, had departed Saskatoon on a flight to Melfort, SK. Shortly after departure, the pilot cancelled IFR and advised ATC that he was returning because of a nose gear problem. The aircraft landed without further incident.
2001-01-31: UPDATE M. & M. reported that upon inspection, damage was found to the aft end of the nose gear doors and brackets and bellcranks in the retraction system. Little or no air charge was found in the nose gear oleo. The company feels that the lack of pressure in the oleo resulted in the nose gear wheel and fork not fully extending prior to retraction and as a result, the nose gear fork jammed in the aft end of the gear doors. All damaged parts have been replaced/repaired and the oleo repaired. The gear was swung with no problems and the aircraft has been operating normally since.
