Summary

2001-11-01: RCH6191 C141 Starlifter FL390 Declared a PAN position 5020N 33W due loss of cabin pressure. Pilot followed contingency procedure for emergency descent and descended to FL270. Continued to original destination. Traffic on descent eastbound MPH830 B767 FL330. Estimate lateral/longitudinal separation degraded to 45NM and 2 minutes. Required separation 60NM or 15 minutes. 2001-11-02: TSB Update Nov 2, 2001. A01A0134: RCH6191, a C-141 was en route from Wrightstown, New Jersey to Ramstein, Germany at FL390 tracking 49N/40W, 51N/30W when the flight crew declared a PANPAN with Gander ACC due to loss of cabin pressure. The crew then turned the aircraft right, followed the contingency procedure and descended to FL270 at which point, they were cleared back on their original track. MPH830, a B-767 was en route from Cancun to Amsterdam at FL330 tracking 47N/40W 50N/30W. During the descent of RCH6191, separation between the two aircraft eroded to 45 nm lateral and 2 minutes longitudinal where 60 nm lateral or 15 minutes longitudinal are required due to converging tracks.
