Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (Overshoot/missed approach, Conflict - IFR & VFR)


2001-10-31: ARN8872 inbound to land RWY33 at Fredericton, ETA 1957, Arrival Advisory delivered. ARN8167 requesting departure from RWY33, Departure Advisory, including traffic, delivered. ARN8872 cancelled IFR at 1952. FSS asked ARN8872 if company traffic had time to depart RWY33, ARN8872 advised there was time. ARN8167 taxied to position RWY33. At aprx. 1954 FSS advised ACC of ARN8872's IFR cancellation, Departure Clearance received for ARN8167 at 1955. Clearance delivered to ARN8167 at 1956. FSS advised ARN8167 that company traffic was now on final approach to RWY33 and asked if he was ready to go. ARN8167 Advised he needed another 10 seconds. ARN8167 was unable to depart prior to ARN8872's arrival time. ARN8872 conducted a missed approach and circled downwind for RWY33. ARN8167 departed RWY33 at 1957. ARN8872 landed RWY33 at 1959.
