Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (ATM - ILS irregularity)
2001-10-15: Hunter 06 CP140 on approach to Fredericton airport reported that Glide Path approach appears to be generating erroneous signals, site technologist verified normal operations from GP ground site. A second check from TRANS8600 FA28 indicated that GP approach appears normal to 1000 feet and then provides inaccurate readings. Technician Notamed GP U/S. Actual Log Data: 1158: Hunter 06 clrd for ILS15 reported final 1159: Hunter 06 reported GP was off. He said if acft followed GP he would have impacted 1 mile final. 1200: ACC advised.TOC Advised Techs dispatched 1234: ACC advised that HUNTER06 checked his equipment at YSJ and it was normal 1240: Techs advised GP appears normal. 1357: TRANSCAN8600 reports GP appears unreliable below 1000 feet. 1517 NOTAM issued GP U/S TIL 0110192359. METAR 12Z M7OVC 6F VFR conditions 14z. TSB Evaluating.
2001-10-17: TSB Update : A01A0129: During an IFR approach to runway 15 at Fredericton a military Aurora aircraft reported an erroneous glide path signal. The crew reported that had the signal been followed the aircraft would have impacted the ground about one mile prior to the threshold. Technicians subsequently checked the ILS glide path equipment at the ground site, and verified normal operation. A second flight check from another aircraft indicated that glide path appeared normal down to 1000 feet, and was inaccurate below. The glide path was NOTAMED unserviceable.
