Accident at Aprox 200 NM SE of St-John's

Summary

2001-09-25: TSB UPDATE:A01A0119: N2380N, A FACTORY NEW CESSNA 172R, WAS BEING FERRIED ACROSS THE ATLANTIC WHEN THE PILOT RADIOED A MAYDAY. THE ENGINE (TEXTRON LYCOMING IO-360-L2A SERIAL NUMBER L-29657-51A) OIL PRESSURE WAS DECREASING AND THE OIL TEMPERATURE INCREASING. THE PILOT WAS FORCED TO DITCH THE AIRCRAFT APPROXIMATELY 200 NM E OF CYYT. SEARCH AND RESCUE RESOURCES WERE IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA ON ANOTHER MISSION, AND COMMENCED A SEARCH FOR THE DOWNED PILOT. A RESCUE HERCULES RECEIVED A BRIEF ELT TRANSMISSION, AND WAS ABLE TO TRIANGULATE IT TO THE SEARCH AREA; HOWEVER THE AIRCRAFT COULD NOT BE LOCATED. IT IS REPORTED THAT THERE WAS NO LIFERAFT ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT, AND THAT THE PILOT HAD A COLD-WATER IMMERSION SUIT. SEARCH FOR THE PILOT HAS BEEN CALLED OFF.
2001-09-24: N2380N, C-172, enroute St-Johns to Santa Maria, Azores declared ""MAYDAY"" and ditched approximately 200 NM southeast CYYT. Pilot lone SOB. Status unknown TSB investigating
