Incident at GOOSE BAY NL (CYYR)

Summary

2001-09-17: ARN8809 DH8 on final approach (2.5 NM) at Goose bay when pilot reported receiving a TCAS resolution advisory. Goose bay Tower is conducting an investigation. TSB Case Closed with more to follow.
2001-09-26: TSB Update September 17, 2001. ARN 8809, a DHC-8, was 2.5 nautical miles back on final approach to runway 08 at Goose Bay (CYYR) when the crew received a TCAS RA warning. The crew followed the TCAS instructions to climb. The TCAS warning was triggered by a flight of F-16 aircraft from the Royal Netherlands Air Force which was also approaching CYYR for an overhead break for runway 08. The DHC-8 crew noticed three F-16s at their altitude overtaking them and they then decided to descend. The DHC-8 continued the approach to a landing on runway 08. The Goose Bay (5 Wing) Flight Safety Officer (DND), is investigating this incident.
