2001-09-04: TSB Update August 31, 2001. A01A0106: ARN8816, a DHC-8-100 had departed runway 24 at Halifax en route to Sydney when the flight crew reported to Halifax tower that they had a landing gear indication problem and that they would like to remain VFR to investigate the problem. A short time later, the crew carried out the alternate landing gear extension procedure and requested a return to Halifax; they also requested AFF to stand by as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely at 1438 ADT without further incident. Maintenance inspection revealed that a hydraulic line in the nose wheel well associated with the number two hydraulic system had failed which allowed depletion of the normal system hydraulic fluid. The line was replaced, several gear swings were carried out and the aircraft was returned to service.
