Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (Alleged Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) infraction)

Summary

2001-08-27: At 2336Z an unidentified amphibious aircraft, with engine on top of wing, flew though the Fredericton Control Zone along the Saint John River in southeasterly direction at an estimated 500 feet. Fredericton FSS called on the MF but there was no reply. Not knowing the pilots intentions and dark rapidly approaching the lights for runways 27 and 33 were turned on. The aircraft turned east and then returned towards the Saint John River and appeared to let down on the river in the vicinity of the Burton Bridge near Oromocto. Oromocto RCMP was contacted and asked to check the river for the above aircraft. Nothing was seen but by this time it was dark. Halifax FSS had no aircraft on flightplan in the vicinity. Nil TSB
