Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ) (Conflict - loss of separation)


2001-08-10: ARN 791 Climbed to 12000 Feet ( or 12200, depending on which Altimeter QM or HZ was being used ) MAL 8062 was given descent clearance to 13000 feet .(and descended to 12700 or 12800 depending again as to which altimeter was being used ). Spacing decreased to 1.5 miles and 700 feet in airspace requiring either 3 miles or 1000ft. TSB Assessing .
2001-08-20: TSB Update August 10, 2001. A01A0097: The IFR Morningstar Express (C-GBWH - a Boeing 727 on descent from Moncton to Halifax, had been cleared to descend to 13,000 feet. The aircraft descended to 13,000, and the crew called level. The aircraft subsequently dipped below 13,000 and conflicted with an opposite direction IFR Dash 8 aircraft, activating TCAS alerts on the aircraft. Spacing was decreased to 1.5 miles laterally and 700 feet vertically in airspace where either 3 miles or 1000 feet is required.
