Incident at Offshore near St-Anthony

Summary

2001-07-23: A01A0081: The pilot was conducting slinging operations from the fore deck of the Coast Guard Ship Ann Harvey when he lost a sling load in the ocean. The occurrence happened during a flight from the ship to shore with a net containing four drums of diesel fuel. The pilot indicated that two of the four rings on the cargo net had broken causing the drums to be released. The fuel drums broke on impact with the ocean creating a small fuel spill. Canadian Coast Guard is in the process of cleaning up the spill and slinging operations have resumed. The pilot had inspected the sling equipment prior to use. TSB evaluating
