Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT)

2001-06-27: TSB Update June 27, 2001 A01A0064: CHI31, an AS32 was en route from St. John's to the Hibernia oil production platform when the flight crew noticed the main gearbox chip light illuminate. The flight crew carried out the appropriate checklist procedure and requested and received a clearance to return to St. John's. The aircraft landed at 0921 NDT without further incident. Maintenance inspection revealed small metal particles on the chip detector. The gearbox has been flushed, a 30-minute hover check will be completed and, depending on the result of further inspection, the helicopter may be returned to service. A new gearbox has been ordered by the operator and upon receipt, they will replace the suspect gearbox and send it for overhaul.
2001-06-26: CHI31 AS32 departed St. John's at 1046Z enroute to the Hibernia platform. At 1048Z pilot requested and received clearance back to St. John's due main gear box check light flashing. No emergency declared nor assistance required. Acft landed at 1151Z. TSB Case Closed. More to Follow.
