Summary

2001-05-11: ACA618 DC9 departed Halifax runway 06 for St. John's, requested to return to Halifax due to control problems. AFF advised and aircraft landed in Halifax at 1824Z without further incident. TSB Case Closed
2001-05-15: TSB Update May 15, 2001. A01A0049: ACA618, a DC9 was en route from Halifax to St. John's when the flight crew reported aircraft control problems and requested and received a clearance to return to Halifax. AFF were advised and the aircraft landed at 1524 ADT without further incident. Maintenance personnel discovered that the rudder power pack had malfunctioned. They replaced the power pack, re-rigged the rudder and carried out a test flight; the aircraft has since been returned to service.
