Incident at ST. JOHN'S INTL NL (CYYT)

Summary

2001-03-13: CDN3836 B737 enroute Toronto to St. John's advised having a vibration in #2 engine, Declaring an Emergency and requesting divert direct Gander (St. John's weather marginal). Landed Gander 2117. TSB case closed with more to follow.
2001-03-14: TSB Update Mar 12, 2001. A01A0021: The Canadian Airlines/Air Canada Boeing 737, operating as CDN3836, was in cruise flight when the crew advised Gander ACC they were declaring an emergency due to vibrations emanating from the number two engine. The crew then requested to divert to Gander due to marginal weather in St. John's. The aircraft Landed safely in Gander at 17:47 NST. Maintenance inspected the aircraft and suspect there may be a loose fan blade. The engine, a Pratt and Whitney JT8D-17A, is being removed and sent for tear-down; total time since last overhaul is approximately 900 hours (Information provided is preliminary and subject to change)
