Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)

Summary

2001-02-28: TSB File A01A0012: The Air Nova Dash 8, flight number ARN8851, was being pushed back from the gate at Halifax when passengers and cabin crew noticed what they considered smoke in the cabin. The cabin crew informed the flight crew who stopped the push-back and confirmed the presence of smoke. The aircraft was immediately shut down and all passengers and crew evacuated through the airstair door. Maintenance inspected the aircraft and determined that there had been no presence of smoke. However, an excessive amount of steam/vapour was present while the aircraft was running due to the combined effect of a cold soaked airframe, wet carpets and heat from the aircraft heating system. The aircraft was returned to service after the heating system was inspected.
