Incident at North East of Goose Bay


2000-06-29: SPR 961 DHC-6, 14 miles North East of Goose Bay declared an emergency with the left engine out. The aircraft landed in Goose Bay at 12:55Z and declared the emergency secured. Nil TSB TSB Update: SPR 961 had just taken off from Goose Bay airport when the flight crew heard a "pop" sound and noticed that the torque indicator on the number one engine was indicating zero. The number one engine ( Pratt and Whitney PT6A-27 ) was shut down and secured by the flight crew. They then requested and received a clearance to return to Goose Bay and an uneventful single-engine landing was completed. Preliminary inspection of the engine revealed metal particles in the oil filter and reduction gearbox filter; engine oil discovered in the engine inlet and bleed valves. The engine which had been in operation for 218 hours since overhaul , has been returned to the overhaul facility. TSB file # A00A0093 MAH Update: Operator has advised that a finding report will be forwarded to MAH after engine teardown.
