Accident at DEER LAKE NL (CYDF)

Summary

2000-06-05: CGVTD PAARO landing Deer Lake veered off runway on landing and came to a stop 150 to 200 feet off the side of runway 25. Damage to the aircraft and pilot suffered srapes on head. TSB CASE CLOSED with more to follow. TSB Update : The pilot of a Piper Arrow was on a local flight in Deer Lake conducting circuits. After the third take-off, when the gear was selected up, the gear " In Transit Light " remained on. The pilot " Toggled " the switch and the in transit light went out. Upon selecting the gear down for the next approach , a " Three Green " indication was obtained; however, this indication alternated with the " In Transit Light ". Eventually the " Three Green " indication came on steady and the pilot elected to do a full stop rather than continue with circuits. On touchdown, the aircraft rolled out straight ahead briefly and then the left wing dropped; this was followed by the aircraft veering sharply to the left and departing the runway, coming to rest in a ditch approximately 200 feet off to the side. The aircraft was substantially damaged; the pilot suffered minor abrasions to the head. TSB file #: A00A0087
